https://www.joann.com/black-cats-on-floral-novelty-cotton-fabric/18671610.html

This was the fabric I tried ordering from Joann's, but got delivered to the old address somehow.

Am I going to try again? Yep. One can never have to much cat fabric. *laughs helplessly*

Have I dont it yet? Nope. Not sure how much to get for a dress length...

This week has been frustrating. After surviving the cat's failed attempt to kill me, I'm down to half strength. She decided to flop to the floor right in front of me in a very tight spot, and in trying to not step on her, I lost my balance and fell. No loss of consciousness, no (known) broken bones, and no blood. But the Ulnar side of my left hand hurts - especially when twisting a lid or doorknob, and pulling the fridge door open must be done with extreme caution. And weight bearing? Not really. The day after this happened, a full can of Coke was too much. But it is getting better as time goes by...

The reason it's so frustrating is because I've once again been bitten by the downsizing and organizing bug, and motivation has been higher than usual to DO it. But the discomfort in my hand holds me back. So, once again, I'm waiting. Waiting for something I really have no control over. Seems like that's the story of my life.

In other news - I've suddenlt got the itch for an Edwardian corset cover. But maybe not a Vintage one. I'm really not big on the lace dripping ones. So instead, I've been looking for a pattern so I can reproduce one to my liking. But I'm so far out of Vintage/Repro pattern Game that all I can hopr for is a recommendation for a good one?? Please?

*sigh* Haven't felt much like writing anything lately. Maybe it's due to the season being one of drawing in instead of outward expansion? IDK, but it's not happening much lately.

I have been "nesting" of a sort. NoNewSewMo saw me doing a deep dive into The Stash - only one box wasn't gone through - and I pulled out 2 boxes worth of fabric I no longer want. WHY did I ever buy khaki cotton?? That was a complete mental lapse on my part. And WHY do I have SO MUCH lilac colored linen??

NoNewSewMo also saw me cutting off a lot of hems on things in my Mending pile. Too many things in that pile are there because they need to be shortened. It's pretty common when you're only 6'1" tall, and the trend is for looong skirts/dresses. Don't get me wrong - I've always liked mid to lower calf hems, but the maxi length means it puddles on the ground for me. Annoying.

+++

I've also culled my books of things I've already read and don't want to read again, or books I no longer want to read. Also a few that I want to read, but don't need to keep because I can borrow from the library in ebook form. That's mainly fiction, but not exclusively.

I haven't bothered watching any of the Democratic Primary Debates - mainly because the field is just too big. I like the positions all of them espouse so much better than I do the current officeholder, so I'm not worried about who will eventually get the nomination. My only worry is that there are still too many people running. It's high time to narrow the field down to maybe 5 so the party isn't too divided to win on election day.

Likewise, I am not watching the Impeachment hearings. It's just makes me too angry too fast to watch. The conclusion is clear to me that the idiot needs to be removed as quickly as possible, but the next in line scares me too. The U.S. is NOT a Christian democracy, it's a secular democracy, and needs to stop tending towards preferrential treatment for one religion over any other. And our VP is only going to do his best to hasten the slids in the wrong direction.

But enough about politics. I'll just work myself into a bad mood.

Mr Ct gave us a scare a couple weeks ago. He suddenly started acting "of" for no reason, and rather dramatically. He was spending at LOT of time hiding under the bed, and didn't want to come out even when food was being offered. The few times we got him out he would simply curl up on the bed for a few minutes, and the next time we checked, he would be back under the bed. Sometimes he would eat a few kibbles if we hand fed him, other times he would refuse it. The afternoon before we took him to the Vet, I didn't know if it would be his last visit, or even if he wasn't already dead since I couldn't get down to look under the bed.

But he was alive, and the bloodwork done at the Vet showed nothing but high blood sugar and dehydration. So they gave him fluids and an appetite stimulant and we took him home. And he did recover, so we're happy. Still no idea what happened, but he is back to being highly food motivated, and we've him playing with Livia and us. He does seem to be moving a little slower, so maybe he's just feeling his age.

It blew in very early Monday morning, and it dropped the daily high temps down about 20 degrees. For 2 whole days. Today and tomorrow we're predicted to be back up to the lower 90s.

But the next front is predicted to come in Friday morning, and they're promising "jacket weather" - which means it might be as low as the 60s in the mornings.

Jacket weather?? Perhaps if I wear a sleeveless shirt. (which I never do.)

Stupid Maxi Skirt trend. I bought a skirt that was admittedly labelled a "maxi skirt". But when it arrived, and I actually tried it on, it literally PUDDLED on the floor. But I liked the fabric - the way it draped and felt, so I decided to shorten it. I just finished cutting *6* inches off the hem, and it STILL touches the tops of my feet! This thing was made for someone my sister's height - she admitted to being 5'12". Yes, I AM short, but all my height is in my legs - I have a 29.5" inseam. I do like long skirts, but I still need to take at least 4" off before I can get it to a length I like, and that's IF I make a deep hem. Rar.

OMG! Just raw the promo for the new Maleficent movie, and I simply cannot wait to see it! Teh Pretty calls like a siren song.

Last night I tried taking double my normal dose of melatonin at 8:30pm, and while I didn't need the Xanax to help me sleep, I did go to bed with a headache tht sat just above my brows like a sinus headache, and my sleep felt restless. So I don't want that to be my normal evening routine.

But I did wake up earlier than usual - mainly due to L hip pain that radiated into my femur. It's gone now, but it wasn't fun, I hope that's not a sign of further arthritis arthritis damage. The surgeon who X-Ray'd it told me it was bad enough he'd recommend replacement if I weren't so young. I was only 35, and I was there due to an injury, so wasn't interested. Now, the transplant makes me even less of a candidate for replacement, so...

I need to sit down and figure ou what's going on with my sewing machine. Last time I tried to use it, it wasn't behaving. I need to fnd out if it was the item or the machine being difficult. And if it's the machine, it almost certainly needs a a servicing. I wonder if there's a tutorial on YouTube for it, otherwise I'll have to pay almost enough to get a brand new machine, and they'll hassle me to buy a new, fancier one when I neither want or ned one from that overpriced place.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/652575618/linen-fabric-by-yard-solid-linen-gauze?ref=search_recently_viewed-2

I am soo tempted to buy a yard of this and turn it into a headscarf for summer. (1 yd would be enough for 2 scarves, actually.) It would be so much more appropriate for the he;;ish heat of summer in Texas than a hat could ever be.

Overslept by an hour this morning. Rar. For once, the cat woke me up by trying to get under the covers with me instead of encouraging me to snuggle with her. We had a cool front come in yesterday and drop the temperature by 10 degrees, otherwise it would be entirely too warm for cat cuddling.

I need to rummage through my UFOs and see if I have a spool of thread in light blue that's made by the company my machine prefers. It doesn't like Coats and Clark's poly wrapped cotton thread. No, it wants the 100 percent polyester from Gutterman. Picky machine...

So last night, as I was trying to prepare dinner, both the Microwave and the toaster oven decided to not work. And while the microwave is over 20 years old and more than deserves to rest in peace after years of faithful service, the toaster oven is relatively new.

Or maybe not. Now that I think about it I realize it's more than 7 or 8 years old. Does that still count as 'new' in today's disposable culture? Anyways - looks like we know what we're getting each other as a Giftmas gift!

And yes - last night's dinner was a cold one. :(

Sewing has happened. Or more correctly - mending has happened. The zipper closure on my lingerie bag had come unstitched so that zipping it closed only closed the zipper and not the bag. The gap was big enough the bag wasn't usable. It has been restitched and returned to service. Not my best work, but no one's going to see it.

I finally finished Caitlyn Doughty's book 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes: Tales From The Crematoria' Interesting and entertaining book. And while I do agree with her that we as a culture are i Death Denial, I disagree with her on what she seems to think we should do instead. I found her to be a little heavy-handed side of the sale of what she believes we should do. But it's worth the read, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't think anything on the 'Death and Dying' subject is automatically morbid or depressing.

After Danabren's (dammit - I went looking for the tags to link to her account and couldn't find them!) insightful comment about NNreSewMonth, I'm gonns five it a go this year. So here's my To-Do List...

1) Hem green kichen towel.

2) Repair binding on neck of grey tank.

3)There is a button that came of the waistband of a piece of clothing, not sure which one. But I need to find out and re-attach it.

4) Hem blue shirt.

Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure I will have more once I start thinking/looking more. My mending pile alone if bigger than that!

In that vein - I had a quick 'brainstorm' session with Himself's fried about the lighting I want/need over the sewing table, and how being in an apartment means I can't simply install something in the ceiling. I'm now thinking a collapiable hutch with the lighting on the underside is the way to go - we break it down when we move, and put it back together when we get to a new place.

Yay. A new project to spend my money on. LOL.

Any place in Central Texas that gets it's water supply from the City of Austin is now being advised to stop drinking the tap water and use bottled water for drinking and cooking. (And to be on the safe side, use boiled water for washing dishes.) Bo lawn watering or car washing either until further notice.

We've even been asked to reduce our shower times.

All because of the historic flooding upstream and the debris and silt it's put into the water supply that becomes our drinking water. The water processing plant is still working, but it's taking longer to process the water and the equipment needs to taken offline more often for cleaning and maintenance.

We've been lucky the past 2 days because it hasn't rained, but the forecast shows an increasing chance of rain for the next 3 days, and it wouldn't tale ,uch to cause even more flooding. Here's hoping Hurricane Willa will go much further S than it currently looks.

Been pondering the NONEWSEWMO challenge the past couple of days. I certainly have enough UFOs to join in! U could even put the pieces that need repair work at the top of the list and reduce the appearance of clutter around here too! It might even fet me back into a creative headspace again - I've been missing that a lot lately.

Hmm...I've got a week to think/ponder...

I'll be cat sitting for a friend next week, so last night I was at her place learning the particulars. (The cat needs his medication daily, so I'll be doing that as part of my visits) After that we went to dinner at Mighty Fine Burgers - and I have to tell ya - the name is spot on. They ARE quite tasty. :)

Afterwards, since we were in the same parking lot, we went to JoAnn's. She was looking for something specific, but I wasn't. I walked out 50 dollars lighter in the wallet. OOPS! I bought a beautifully Middle Eastern patterned (but 100 perdent dead dino) not quite 3 yard piece, and 3 yards od light grey cotton interlock with an all-over bat pattern. (Ir's telling me it NEEDS to be a dress. (!!)

I'm listening.

Tried BPAL's Gluttony and Baobhan Sith recently. Baobhan Sith had no smell. Zero. I guess it doesn't age well. That's disappointing. I looked up the components, and was looking forwatd to trying it. Gluttony, however, had a very bafed goods smell. Nice, but I;m not really a Foodie when it comes to perfume...

So I've been going through part of my Fabric Stash looking for a navy or indigo medium or heavy weight linen to make pants out of, and I have yet to find ANY dark blue linen. I found dark blue cotton, several pieces of linen in sky blue, purple, and red, even a couple pieces in light green, but not one of dark blue.

WHAT?

(I was so hoping to use up something from the stash...but at least I have a little bit less dark blue cotton now...)

Ugh. Drought seems to be a good default for this place. We just always seem to be in need of rain. Unless there's a hurricane - then we get too much. Yeah, Harvey did make it rain this far inland, but no enough to cause flooding. Most of the damage was due to wind. But go less than an hour towards the coast, and there was a lot of flooding which only got worse as you get closer to the Louisiana border. People are STILL in hotels and in temporary housing.

Went rummaging through a couple small fabric bins today to rearrange them, and I am reminded just how amazing some of those gems are. GOTTA get my ass in gear about getting back to sewing!Aksi came across some plum stretchy (crushed?) panne velvet that might be good for making up a 'skater dress' like Eva's not sure how to make her journal name clickable yet), assuming she's still willing to sketch out the pattern pieces for me.??

Also managed to do some reorganizing and get 4 boxes down to three, so yay me. (It helps when one of the three boxes is bigger than the now empty box LOL(

BYAL's Lupercalia scents are out, and I simply have to find a way to sample some of them. (Cat Chasing Butterflies!) I'm just sooo potentially yuumy. I used to be on LJ's BPAL group, but that was then...
